2019 Jeep Cherokee vs 2019 Ford Escape near Murrieta, CA

We want your car buying experience to be a great one. Which is why we have compared two of the top crossover SUV out there today, so you know you're going home with a vehicle you'll love for years to come. We'll start by taking a look at the 2019 Jeep Cherokee with a new exterior look, a brand new optional turbocharged engine, and a highly capable four-wheel-drive system. We'll then look at the 2019 Ford Escape with three different engines, four trim levels, and several optional packages.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

The standard engine for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that pumps out 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. If you choose you can opt for one of two high-powered engines available as options. No matter the trim level you choose you can pick either a 3.2-liter V6 or the new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The V6 produces 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque. While the turbocharged engine makes 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive comes standard on all model except the Trailhawk which comes exclusively with four-wheel-drive. Of course, you can opt for Jeep's legendary four-wheel-drive on any of the other models as well.

2019 Ford Escape Power & Handling

Ford offers the Escape with three different engines, all of which come with specific trims. The base S model comes standard with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The unimpressive engine produces 168 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel-drive exclusive Escape S only makes up to 29 mpg. The SE and SEL models come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Which still falls short the Cherokee's standard engine with 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The Titanium model comes solely with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This engine produces 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

The Limited model adds an 8.4-inch touchscreen, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, a power liftgate, remote start, and heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. The Overland model comes adds even more luxurious features including ventilated front seats, sound-deadening windshield and front windows, and navigation. The Trailhawk, Jeep's off-road-themed model, adds all-terrain tires, tow hooks, increased ground clearance, and skid plates.

2019 Ford Escape Features & Design

The base model Ford Escape comes standard with a 4.2-inch display, Bluetooth, air conditioning, cruise control, automatic headlights, and a six-speaker sound system. Moving down the model lineup is the SE with a keyless entry pad, cloth upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen and roof rails. For even more features you'll have to opt for either the SEL or the Titanium model. These range-topping models come equipped with features like heated mirrors, a power liftgate, remote start, xenon headlights, and navigation. If you're looking for safety features such as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, which comes standard on the Cherokee Limited model, you'll have to purchase them for the Escape through available packages.

Conclusions

It's pretty obvious to us that the 2019 Jeep Cherokee simply leaves the Ford Escape behind in the dust. While Ford offers several engine options for the Escape, they're all tied to specific trim levels. If you wanted an engine that could even compete with the Cherokee's standard engine you would have to opt for the most expensive Espace model. The Jeep Cherokee also offers buyers way more features that aren't locked away in additional packages.
