The All-New Engine
In the 2020 model year, you will find the all-new third-generation 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine under the hood of the Ram 1500. This engine is capable of delivering up to 260 horsepower and the best-in-class 480 pound-feet of torque. The EcoDiesel engine also offers fantastic fuel economy and vibration and noise reductions for a more comfortable and wallet-friendly ride. There are several significant changes to the EcoDiesel engine that make the improved fuel economy and dynamic performance possible. Just some of these changes include completely redesigned lightweight aluminum alloy pistons that include thinner rings and low-friction coating on the side skirts and pins to reduce loss and redesigned high-pressure direct-injection fuel injector nozzles that match the newly designed and optimized combustion chamber. The design of the exhaust gas recirculation system has also been updated to a dual loop (high and low pressure) system. This minimizes turbocharged energy loses and boosts fuel economy by drawing gases after the diesel particulate filter. There is also a new-generation water-cooled turbocharged with a variable geometry turbine to increase responsiveness during transient conditions and increase efficiency. This EcoDiesel engine will be available on all models and configurations including the Ram Rebel for the very first time!
