Drivers looking to get into a Grand Cherokee L can choose between two fantastic engines. The standard engine is a 3.6L V6 that provides 290 horsepower, 257 lb-ft of torque, and can haul up to 6,200 pounds. If you're a driver who needs a little more power, you'll find what you're looking for with the 5.7L V8. This engine produces 357 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque, and is rated to tow 7,200 pounds. Both engines pair perfectly with a hearty TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Three four-wheel-drive systems are available for the Grand Cherokee L. Quadra-Trac I employs a single-speed transfer case with multiple sensors to detect a loss of traction and adjust the distribution of torque to the axle with the most traction to limit or prevent wheel slip. Quadra-Trac II uses a two-speed transfer case and a network of sensors to perform the same as Quadra-Trac I. Quadra-Trac II also has Active 4-Low Torque Control with a 2.72:1 gear ratio for maximum off-road maneuverability. Quadra-Drive II employs a two-speed transfer case and an Electronic Limited Slip Rear Differential to provide the unparalleled capability. The system can automatically detect slippage as it happens and smoothly distribute the torque to any combination of tires that have the most traction. Quadra-Lift air suspension and Selec-Terrain Traction Management System are also available to provide world-class on- and off-road capability.
