2022 Grand Wagoneer vs Lincoln Navigator

If you’re currently seeking a new luxury SUV in and around Temecula, CA, there’s no doubt you’ve discovered just how competitive the market can be. There’s a multitude of different options all claiming to be the biggest, best, most accommodating, and with the best technology. With an important decision like choosing your next car, you want to make absolutely sure that you’re getting the best option for your lifestyle. To help narrow things down, we’ll be taking a look at two options in-depth to see which one is the standout pick. The first option is the all-new Grand Wagoneer, arriving soon for the 2022 model year. The second option is the 2021 Lincoln Navigator, which has been a well-recognized name in the luxury large SUV segment for years. Which vehicle will receive our recommendation? Continue reading to find out.

2022 Grand Wagoneer Power & Handling

The Grand Wagoneer starts off strong with a robust powertrain that stays consistent under the hood of all four of its trim levels. Its engine is the 6.4-liter V-8 which kick out 471 horsepower and 455-lb-ft of torque. The V8 pairs with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission that not only works to conserve fuel, but also provides plentiful low-end torque which comes in handy on slippery roads, or while towing a trailer. Speaking of towing, the Grand Wagoneer has an outstanding 9,860-pound towing capacity when properly equipped, and also has standard 4-wheel drive across the board. There are three available transfer cases, the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II or Quadra-Drive II that vary depending on the trim level you choose. The Grand Wagoneer can handle up to 24 inches of water fording, and can even take the off-road trails with the Selec-Terrain Traction Management system.

2021 Lincoln Navigator Power & Handling

Similar to the Grand Wagoneer, the Lincoln Navigator’s sole powertrain is a mainstay on all three of its trim levels, the base, the Reserve, and the Black Label. The Navigator’s engine is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that provides 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission that does its best to keep the Navigator from feeling sluggish despite its imposing size. It has the added benefit of adaptive suspension for a bit of extra smoothness and stability, but it lacks the off-road prowess of the Grand Wagoneer. The Navigator offers an available Trailer Tow Package, but even with the help of that add-on, its maximum towing capacity can’t quite match that of the Grand Wagoneer, falling at just 8,700 pounds.

2022 Grand Wagoneer Features & Design

The Grand Wagoneer has an elegant and modern design both inside and out, with attention to detail highlighting each and every corner of the vehicle. It seats up to eight passengers, and has heated and ventilated seating clad in either Nappa leather or premium quilted Palermo leather. The entryways are lit by soft ambient LED lighting, and the windshield is made from acoustic laminated glass to create a calm and quiet environment. The front seats offer memory and massage features, and upper trim levels feature a cooler bin in the front console to keep drinks cold for the whole drive. There’s also an impressive safety package with standard features like adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and many more.

2021 Lincoln Navigator Features & Design

The Navigator can be configured to seat either seven or eight passengers within its cabin by opting for either bucket seats or a bench seat in the second row. The seats are upholstered in imitation leather for the base level trim, a combination of faux and real leather on the Reserve, and full leather upholstery on the top-tier Black Label. The body of the Navigator is large and angular, with few character lines to break up its somewhat boxy appearance. Inside, its technology does appear modern and impressive, with features such as a Revel Ultima audio system, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen display, and wireless smartphone charging capability. Other features available throughout the lineup include heated seats and a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, and LED exterior lighting.

Conclusion:

Both of these SUV options have a wide array of features that are sure to entice many drivers. However, we ultimately feel that the Grand Wagoneer outshines the Navigator due to its power and capability, as well as its exceptional safety features. Despite being new to the market, the Grand Wagoneer sets forth such a strong offering that it’s truly impossible to ignore.
