Your Jeep is tough and rugged and built to face the toughest terrain. Despite its robustness, components will become worn or damaged over time and reduce its performance. As your Jeep dealer, we want to tell you more about some Jeep maintenance we provide to keep your Jeep in great condition.
Brake Pad Replacement
Brake pads are a vital part of your braking system. They fit into the brake calipers, and the calipers are forced against the wheel rotors when you hit the brakes. The pads have a friction-producing material covering which reacts with the smooth rotor surfaces to bring your wheels to a stop. A healthy pad has a 1/2″ thick covering, and it needs replacement once the material thickness drops to 1/4″ thickness.
Once the material covering a pad is thin enough, a metal spike buried in the material becomes visible. This spike will scratch against the rotor when you brake and make a high-pitched screeching sound. Replacing the pads is a quick and inexpensive process, and you’ll notice an improvement in your braking speed and a decrease in braking distance.
Tire Rotations
Even the highest quality tires wear out over time. They’re subject to constant friction with the surface as you drive, and they can suffer additional wear from issues like poor alignment, incorrect balancing, or worn shocks. In addition, each tire position on your Jeep generates a specific wear pattern, and the continual abrasion of specific areas on a tire increases the chances of a puncture or a blowout.
A tire rotation reduces tire wear as we shift each tire to a different position. On an AWD, the front tires move to the rear and change sides, while the rear tires move to the front and change sides. This cross-rotation pattern helps to equalize tire wear and extend tire life. While rotations extend your tire life, they will eventually wear out. We stock replacement tires for your Jeep in all the most popular brands and will replace and rebalance your tires when the time comes.
Transmission Fluid Replacement
Transmission fluid circulates through your transmission and helps to cool the hot components. Many transmission components depend on friction to work effectively, and the fluid coats them in a friction-resistant covering that protects them from damage. This fluid also provides the hydraulic power that shifts your gears.
The fluid weakens over time and becomes less effective. This can cause shifting issues and damage to gears and gear teeth. Older fluid can also overheat and burn, causing serious transmission damage. We’ll drain the old transmission fluid and replace the transmission filter. We then reseal the transmission and refill the fluid, and your transmission will work perfectly again.
