Pick a Good Time

Young drivers need to get in the habit of using their turn indicators constantly, even when they believe that the intentions are obvious. It's also essential that inexperienced drivers not stare at what's directly in front of them all the time. Driving at highway speeds can be unpredictable, so you need to take a broader viewpoint. Not only do you need to lock at what's in front of your vehicle but also further down the road and into the rear-view. Good drivers always use their blinkers and adjust observation points.

Stay Calm

Learning to drive on the turnpike is more than just proper driving; it's also about keeping your emotions in check. Never take things personally, especially when you're on the highway. If you get cut off, let it go! You never know the mental state of other drivers, and it's possible they made a simple mistake as no driver is perfect. There is no need to raise your voice, tailgate another driver, or retaliate in any way, shape, or form. Be sure to keep calm no matter what happens, as it will serve you well in your driving life.

Focus on the Road

Drivers who are under the age of 20 are often distracted and can cause accidents. It's critical that you keep your eyes on the road and off of your cellphone or radio. It's never a good idea to text and drive or talk on the phone.
