Off-Road Capability of the 2022 Wagoneer

Presented by Temecula CDJR

The Wagoneer made its first appearance in the Jeep lineup in 1963 and quickly became known as the pinnacle of capability and luxury. The Wagoneer became the first vehicle to pair a 4x4 system with an automatic transmission. Fast forward to the present day, and the Wagoneer is returning for the first time since 1991 as an extension of the Jeep Brand to continue the legacy of superior capability and comfort. The Wagoneer provides a level of off-road capability that Jeep is globally known for. Three four-wheel-drive systems are available across the 2022 Wagoneer lineup Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with a limited-slip rear differential. Each drivetrain brings a level of capability that the engineers at Jeep have been perfecting for 80 years now, and the fruits of their labor shine brightly for the 2022 Wagoneer. Quadra-Lift air suspension is available to provide up to 10 inches of ground clearance. The Wagoneer also comes available with Selec-Terrain Traction Management System with five selectable drive modes. The Wagoneer models employ a 5.7L V8 engine and a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. This setup produces 392 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque and, when properly equipped, can tow up to 10,000lbs. There are many things that play a role in the 2022 Wagoneer's off-road prowess. What is Quadra-Trac I?

The Quadra-Trac I system provides drivers with full-time four-wheel drive without the need to flip a switch or pull a lever. This provides smooth operation on a wide range of road conditions and seamlessly adjusts itself to provide optimal traction wherever your journeys take you. The lightweight single-speed transfer case provides enhanced fuel economy and can instantaneously sense slippage and move as much as 100% of available torque to the wheel with the most grip.

How is Quadra-Trac II different?

Quadra-Trac II employs a two-speed transfer case and a network of sensors to detect tire slip at the earliest possible moment and counteracts it. The system also uses throttle control to predict quick movement from when the vehicle is stopped to maximize traction before slippage has the chance to occur. Much like Quadra-Trac I, the system is capable of instantly routing up to 100% of available torque to the wheel with the most traction.

What is the Difference Between Quadra-Trac and Quadra-Drive II?

Quadra-Drive II is the only Wagoneer drivetrain to employ an Electronic Limited Slip Rear-Differential to provide drivers with industry-leading traction. Quadra-Drive II instantly detects slippage and seamlessly distributes torque to the tires with the most traction in any combination. This system also allows the vehicle to anticipate low traction and adjust itself to limit the severity of the slip or avoid it entirely.

How does the Quadra-Lift System Operate?

Quadra-Lift is an air suspension system capable of adding up to 3.6 inches of lift span using four-corner air springs. Air suspension was selected for the Wagoneer to provide optimal ground clearance for off-roading but also to provide a smooth, air-cushioned ride wherever the Wagoneer goes. Quadra-Lift can either be controlled manually on a console control by the driver or operate manually. Quadra-Lift has five adjustable height settings, normal ride height (NRH), Off-Road 1, Off-Road 2, Park Mode, and Aero Mode. The 2022 Wagoneer stands with 8 inches of ground clearance in the normal ride height setting. When Off-Road 1 is selected, the system will raise the suspension one inch to provide 9 inches of ground clearance over trail obstacles. Off-Road 2 raises the ground clearance to ten inches to give drivers legendary off-roading capability. Park Mode lowers the suspension 1.6 inches from NRH so all passengers can easily enter and exit the vehicle. Lastly, Aero Mode lowers the suspension 0.6 inches from NRH to 7.4 inches to provide optimal fuel economy and performance. Aero Mode is engaged when the Selec-Terrain is in Sport mode.

What is Selec-Terrain?

Selec-Terrain is the last feature that gives the Wagoneer its extraordinary off-road capability. It is a traction management system that gives drivers the option of on-road and off-road settings to get maximum 4x4 performance. Selec-Terrain coordinates all of the four-wheel-drive systems to provide the best possible performance across various road conditions. Selec-Terrain has five modes, Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud. Auto allows the 4x4 system to automatically adjust itself for any on or off-road scenario. Sport mode can be selected by the driver with the push of a button to enhance the performance and provide a fun on-road driving experience. Rock mode raises the Quadra-Lift system to the maximum ride height of 10 inches. Rock mode also coordinates the differentials, transfer case, and throttle to provide low-speed control. Snow mode adjusts the Wagoneer's traction control to provide superior performance on snow-covered roads. Sand/Mud mode coordinates Quadra-Lift and traction control to immediately respond to wheel spin and torque to prevent slipping on sandy and muddy conditions.
