Dodge is known best for a few things, creating impossibly powerful muscle cars and giving you some of the best SUVs ever produced in the Durango and now the 2023 Dodge Hornet. That's right, Dodge has come out with a new SUV for the 2023 model year, and it is arguably one of the best and most important vehicles to have come out in the last few years. The Hornet is abuzz with juicy details and is ready to compete in the stacked small SUV segment. But, of course, you can't have a competitive SUV without solid engine options, and that's what we are here to talk about today. Below you will find out more about the Hornet's engine options, and once you are done reading, be sure to check out our complete Horent inventory and schedule a test drive here at Temecula Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM!
Power for the Hornet GT
Out with the HEMI and in the Hurricane. The new Hurricane engines, much like the cultural phenomenon, have a ton of power and force. Under the hood of the Hornet GT, you will find an inline Hurricane I-4 engine which more than competes with the V8 engine options. This fantastic engine pumps out a solid 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, which automatically makes it one of the most powerful small SUVs out there right out of the gate. All the power is sent through a nine-speed automatic transmission while connecting to an all-wheel-drive system. Dodge estimates that this version of the Hornet can go from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds or less. This engine will make the Dodge Hornet more of a muscle car among the SUV crowd.
Electric Hornet R/T
Many Dodge fans covet the R/T badge for several reasons, as the badge focuses more on sportiness above all else. This makes it a perfect fit for the uber-powerful Hornet, as the R/T version of this new SUV is a plug-in hybrid giving you easygoing electric driving while still giving you the power and speed that you need to push the pedal to the metal. The battery pack here is a 15.5-kWh battery that combines with a 90-kW motor that sends power to the rear wheels while also giving you more than 30 miles of all-electric range. A 1.3-liter turbocharged I-4 engine combines with a six-speed automatic transmission, which elevates the total output to 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the R/T comes with the PowerShot, which will maximize your power in short 15-second bursts that will take a full second off the 0-60 time as you can get there in 6.1 seconds or less. If you switch to hybrid mode, you will also get better fuel economy than the Hornet GT.
Hornet GT GLH Concept and Safety Features
Most Dodge drivers love to customize their vehicles, and to further support these drivers, Dodge has come up with the Direct Connection program. This is known as the Hornet GT GLH, which gets its namesake from the Dodge Omni GLH hot hatchback of the 1980s. This program allows you to help your Hornet with things like a lowered suspension, bigger wheels, louder exhaust, stand-out decals, and power boosts. In addition to all the power and customization that the Hornet possesses, there are also quite a few safety features available no matter what trim of the Hornet you go with. These include automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. You can also opt for the Tech Pack, which adds traffic sign recognition, driver attention monitoring, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Tech for the Hornet
There are many advanced tech features available for the Hornet. Hence, no matter what trim level you go with, you will be treated to items such as a 12.3-inch reconfigurable digital display and a 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The touchscreen has an Android-based user interface with wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa functionality. You can also connect multiple phones at once with the Bluetooth system. Rounding things out are tech features such as front-row USB ports, a wireless charger, and a 14-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.
