Brand New Engine Option

Jeep adds a new direct injection 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to the lineup this year! This engine cranks out 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque while offering agile on- and off-road manners and outstanding fuel economy. Thanks to all the advanced features, this engine is one of the most technologically advanced in the industry! Jeep equips this engine with an electric actuated wastegate and twin-scroll/low-inertia turbocharger so that it can provide exceptional responsiveness and mind-blowing performance every time you turn the SUV on! This engine also comes equipped with three more advanced technologies including a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system, double overhead camshafts, and dual independent camshaft timing. This marks the very first time that these technologies have been used in combination with a twin-scroll turbocharger and together they produce incredible levels of performance and reduce the SUV's fuel consumption. 2019 Cherokee models outfitted with this engine also gain engine/start-stop technology to enhance the vehicle's fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gases. According to the EPA, this engine delivers up to 31 mpg on the highway.

Pentastar Engine Option

Another 2019 engine option is the Pentastar 3.2-liter V6. All trim levels can be equipped with this engine and it generates up to 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque. This engine is a great option for those that are looking for efficiency, power, and refinement. Everyone will love this engine as it reduces the noise, vibration, and harshness from the outside to make the ride more comfortable! This engine is a Pentastar so it comes equipped with individual exhaust-manifold runners that are integrated into the cylinder head aluminum casting. This construction reduces the weight of the vehicle and boosts the manufacturing efficiency. Plus the performance of this engine is enhanced with a 107:1 compression ratio. Fuel economy is also enhanced as the variable-displacement oil pump reduces the powertrain's parasitic losses. The EPA has estimated that this engine can reach up to 29 miles per gallon with consistent highway driving!

Tigershark Engine Option

The last engine option for the 2019 Cherokee is the Tigershark 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that is outfitted with MultiAir2 technology. This engine has been refined for the 2019 model year and is now the standard engine option! Producing 180 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque this engine is a force to be reckoned with. Enhancements for the 2019 model year include adjustments to the air intake applications for outside harshness and noise vibration reduction. Plus the engine's fuel economy has been boosted during warm-up cycles as certain components of the engine have lost weight. The MultiAir2 system boosts the fuel economy by 7.5% to help reduce the Cherokee's carbon-dioxide emissions! This engine also comes equipped with other advanced technologies like an electro-hydraulic fully variable valve-lift system that uses a column of oil between the camshaft and intake valves instead of the traditional mechanical link. Estimated by the EPA, this engine can get up to 31 mpg on the highway.

Transmission

All 2019 engine options are mated to an enhanced TorqueFlite transmission. This eight-speed automatic transmission refines the drive of this SUV with new software. Delivering smooth power when traveling at highway speeds, enhanced fuel efficiency, and more aggressive launches this transmission is a great match. Plus, it has been engineered to find the right gear every time because it is created with small steps between the gears which translates to incredibly smooth operation. Launch performance is benefited with a 4.71 first-gear ratio.
