Ram 1500 Revolution Concept Capability
The doubts that drivers have about electric power slowing down vehicles have been put to rest by instantaneous torque and mind-boggling zero-to-sixty times. The immediate torque is because electrons are constantly flowing, ready to deliver power to the wheels at a moment's notice without any delay. Conversely, with an internal combustion engine, you must wait for engine revolutions to build to provide the power being requested. The instant release of torque provided by electric power enhances both on and off-road performance. Providing electric power to the Ram 1500 Revolution are two electric drive modules (EDMs); one on the front axle and another on the rear axle, providing all-wheel drive for excellent capability. Ram’s engineers used smaller, more powerful EDMs to afford the interior design team more space. Meanwhile, the exterior design team created extra space in the EDM locations for larger EDMs for future high-performance applications. Four-wheel steering, standard on the Ram 1500 Revolution, makes maneuvering off-road trails and tight parking spaces much easier. Meanwhile, the standard adaptive damping suspension system provides a smooth ride no matter the terrain or speed. The Revolution’s battery pack can be charged for up to 100 miles in as little as ten minutes with an 800-volt DC Fast Charger.
Exterior Design of the Ram 1500 Revolution
While the traditional can-and-bed design of all trucks is used for the Ram 1500 Revolution, that’s about the only thing it has in common with other trucks. Ram essentially used this design as a blank canvas to design a truck unlike any other. The frontal view of the concept truck oozes confidence with a high and wide stance and an upgraded fascia with an illuminated and modernized ‘RAM’ emblem. Flanking the new emblem are ‘tuning fork’ LED headlights. The lower grille flows down and underneath the vehicle into a front skid plate protecting the undercarriage. The front bumper features two swiveling tow hooks that can fold flat against the bumper when not in use. Of course, being all-electric, there is no internal combustion engine under the hood. Instead, Ram gives Revolution owners additional cargo space with a roomy frunk. Instead of traditional doors that open forward, the Ram 1500 Revolution features saloon-style doors that open opposite each other without a B-pillar, creating a wide view of the entire cabin. The modernization continues with many of the exterior features being powered, including the tailgate, side steps, charge port door, and flush-mounted door handles. Other exterior features for the Ram 1500 Revolution include 35-inch tires on 24-inch wheels, a 60/40 split multi-function tailgate with folding bed-extending gates, auto-leveling suspension, and more. The Ram 1500 Revolution uses a five-foot-seven-inch bed, while the cabin is four inches longer than the current Ram 1500 crew cab models.
Ram 1500 Revolution Interior Design
When Ram took the interior design of their first EV concept to the drawing board, they set out to provide a versatile cabin. Designers call it a “one-space environment” because of its continuous space from front to back. With the RamTrack track and rail system on the floor, the cabin can be modified to accommodate additional cargo, additional passengers, and just about anything you need it to. The dashboard features two touchscreens providing more than 28 inches of digital real estate with an upper and lower touchscreen. The lower touchscreen can be removed to be used as a tablet for a variety of the truck's functions. The center console features two fold-out panels to provide a hard surface to do paperwork or eat lunch. Looking behind the steering wheel, you’ll find the absence of a gauge cluster. This is because it features a head-up display for important vehicle information. The RamTrack system allows the seats and console to slide into various positions as needed. Furthermore, for an industry first, the Ram Revolution BEV concept will use third-row jump seats mounted to the powered midgate, providing additional seating. However, these seats can fold flat on the midgate, or the lower section can be removed and stored elsewhere for additional cargo space. The midgate can also be folded down to allow space for cargo up to 18 feet long.
