The New 807 Horsepower Mopar Hellcrate Engine

The New 807 HP Mopar Hellcrate Engine

You might say that horsepower is in Chrysler Corporation’s DNA. It goes back to the 1950s when the first-generation Hemi engines – the first engine to develop one horsepower per cubic inch – were manufactured by the company. In the 1960s, Chrysler’s second-generation Hemis were so powerful they were actually banned from Nascar races as unfair competition! Yes, horsepower is something that Chrysler Corporation knows a little about.

Today, Stellantis Group, Chrysler’s parent company, is still in the horsepower business and sells ultra-powerful “crate” engines under the Mopar name. And just recently, Mopar unleashed the most powerful production engine ever available to enthusiasts yet with the launch of its newest crate engine – the 807-horsepower Hellcrate Redeye HEMI V-8. It joins a collection of five other outrageously powerful HEMI crate engines that are now available from Stellantis and its Mopar parts division.

“With the addition of this new supercharged HEMI, Mopar now offers five HEMI crate engines with a range of 375 to 1,000 horsepower,” said Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care for FCA – North America. “All Mopar crate engines are quality-tested and factory-backed to deliver proven performance to our enthusiasts.”

When was the first Hellcrate HEMI released?

In 2017, Mopar stunned the industry when it released the first Hellcrate engine. It was a 6.2-liter supercharged Crate HEMI Engine that offered an unheard-of 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Not only was it available in the then-current Dodge muscle cars, but it could also be purchased as a “kit” complete with full documentation, wiring harnesses, and custom transmission adapters!  This has never been done before.

Is the new Hellcrate Redeye engine better?

The new Hellcrate engine is even more potent than the original Hellcrate. With 807 horsepower and 717 lb.-ft. of torque, the new Redeye Hellcrate engine is the same engine installed in the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon – the world’s most powerful muscle car ever built. Today the Redeye engine also powers the new Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye and the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye.

What improvements have been made to the original Hellcrate?

The new Hellcrate Redeye engines feature the following improvements and upgrades:

·         Higher rpm limit: 6,500 rpm vs 6,200 rpm
·         Increased turbo boost pressure: 14.5 psi vs 11.6 psi
·         Larger supercharger volume: 2.7 litres vs 2.4 litres
·         Piston-cooling jet flow: increased 100% over previous
·         Camshaft: 5150 alloy and optimized for higher rpm
·         Pistons: Forged steel alloy with powder-forged connecting rods
·         Crankshaft: Forged steel alloy with increased stroke and finer balancing

What does the Redeye Hemi Kit include?

The Hellcrate Redeye Kit includes the complete engine block with supercharger and throttle body, all coil packs, fuel injectors, water pump, front-sump oil pan, and transmission flexplate. Hot Rodders who prefer a manual gearbox can obtain a special high-rpm flywheel and clutch/pressure plate assembly. Also available for the Redeye engine is a Front End Accessory Drive Kit which includes an alternator, power-steering pump, all belts, pulleys, and all mounting hardware.
