What is the Jeep Recon?

Discover the Future of Jeep Here!

Jeep has come a long way over the past 80-plus years. From the battlefields of World War II to some of the toughest trails on Earth, Jeep has proved itself time and time again. As time marches on and model years pass, Jeep has never slowed its progress. In true Jeep fashion, the legendary brand has revealed its plans to continue marching into the future of the automotive industry with the first-ever all-electric Jeep Recon. Please continue reading below to learn more about the Jeep Recon and its Zero Emissions Freedom!

How is the Jeep Recon Powered?

As we mentioned above, the Jeep Recon is an all-electric vehicle, more commonly known as a battery-electric vehicle or BEV. This means that the Recon does away with an internal combustion engine completely and uses just a pair of electric motors and a rechargeable EV battery pack. Not only does this save drivers on fuel costs and emissions, it also saves them on maintenance and provides exciting performance. The Recon’s performance comes from high levels of power and immediate torque distribution. Whereas internal combustion engines require time between when you press the gas pedal and when all of the engine’s torque meets the wheels for the air/fuel mixture to ignite, the electric power from a BEV is instantly available, giving you 100% of the torque from a standstill. This makes merging on the highway a breeze, but it also enhances the off-road capability as it allows you to overcome trail obstacles without having to build up RPMs. The Recon is also equipped with other standard off-roading equipment, including but not limited to Selec-Terrain traction management and locking front and rear differentials. To boast about the Recon’s range and capability, Jeep stated that on a full charge, it has the ability to surpass the fearsome Rubicon Trail here in California with enough remaining battery power to make it back to town and recharge.

Design of the Jeep Recon

The Recon might be a vehicle straight from the future, but it is still authentically Jeep. By wearing the instantly recognizable seven-slot grille, a high and wide commanding road presence, grille ring LED lighting, and rugged lower cladding, the Jeep Recon is the perfect balance between vintage Jeep and future Jeep. Another feature that gives it that vintage Jeep touch is the open-air freedom it provides with removable doors and windows in addition to the Sky One-Touch power sliding top. To enhance the Recon’s off-roading abilities, Jeep gave it aggressive all-terrain tires, underbody skid plate protection, and electric blue tow hooks.

Jeep's Electric Present and Future

Jeep’s path toward its goal of Zero Emissions Freedom started in 2021 with the release of the Wrangler 4xe lineup. Now also available for the Grand Cherokee, the 4xe powertrain links a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine to two EV motors and a rechargeable battery pack, making it Jeep’s first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrain. This setup gives both models 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, while the Wrangler maintains the gas equivalent of 49 MPG, and the Grand Cherokee gets 56. Jeep has plans to spread the 4xe powertrain to the entire Jeep lineup by the 2025 model year. Additionally, Jeep has laid plans to become a leader in the electric SUV market by making 50% of all sales battery-electric vehicles by the 2030 model year. As for the Jeep Recon, ordering is set to open at the beginning of 2023, with production beginning in 2024.
