PHEV
The next option you’ll have when searching for a more fuel-efficient vehicle is a PHEV. These models have become very popular, especially over the past few years. A PHEV is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, meaning it combines the power of a gas engine with a rechargeable battery and an electric motor. In most cases, PHEVs will offer you the ability to select which drive mode you want to use at a given time. For example, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe each have three drive modes: the Electric, Hybrid, and eSave. With these modes, you can use electric power, gas power, or both at once! PHEVs will greatly reduce the amount of gas you need to consume, and lead to big savings in the long run.

Hybrid
Hybrid vehicles refer to the type of powertrain technology that’s been around the longest of any example on this list. However, hybrid vehicles are designed to be more fuel-efficient than a typical car. Within the world of hybrid vehicles, there are hybrid engines, and mild-hybrid systems. One example of a mild-hybrid system is the Ram 1500, which offers mild-hybrid systems on both of its available engines. Rather than plugging in your vehicle to recharge, the electric system recaptures energy through a process called regenerative braking, wherein the vehicle can save energy when the brakes are applied, and save it to reuse later.
